New Hampshire Trappers Association

Every year the New Hampshire Trappers Association coordinates various Fishing Day events for the St Charles Children. Perhaps the most looked forward to fishing day is the one we schedule in conjunction with the Profile Bowman Club in Gonic and hold at the Squamagonic Sportsmen's facilities on Hanson pond. This relationship got started about five years ago and each year the event gets better. This year it was a major goal to insure that we had more adults to assist than there were children to enjoy. We wanted to provide each child with an adult all to themselves for the day. Joining us for the first time was the Granite State Houndsmen with a fine group of volunteers. Each child had one or more adults to interact with and there was plenty of additional help to cook and clean fish. For the first time we had ice cream at the waters edge. Besides the volunteers from the clubs many other individuals donated money, food, equipment, or services to bring it all together. This particular event has taken on an element of tradition. It is appropriate to say that the Profile Bowman Club is the lead organization for this particular event. If you look at the size of this club and the amount of social contribution they make, you might say they have set the gold standard for giving. It was a fine day when the NHTA first got involved with Profile on behalf of St Charles Fishing. Now as Profile continues to expand and improve this annual event the NHTA will continue to play our part as a Sponsor and coordinator while providing volunteers from within our membership. I am confident that the Granite State Houndsmen have been touched by the love of these fine children and will be regulars at this event each year. We three clubs that are so very different in our normal focus are able to come together for some very significant synergy that benefits this worthy cause. Perhaps the successful event we have all enjoyed will interest more clubs to emulate this model and partner up for socially responsible projects. It is interesting to note, that none of us are fishing clubs.
