Rendezvous 2006 was a great success with many trappers
present along with their families and a significant number of young
folks. The The pictures are starting to come in and they will
accumulate on this website where they will be stored as part of our
continuing history and heritage. The winners of the pie contest on
Saturday were Sandra Burnham for 1st prize, Maryanne Jefferson for
2nd prize, and Eli Coponen for 3rd prize. On Sunday we had the
Annual Fall Business Meeting of the NHTA which involved many
aspects. The winning raffle tickets were drawn for gun winners and
their names are posted on the HOME page of this website. The gun
raffle is the largest fund raising mechanism utilized by NHTA and
therefore the top sellers are recognized and given prizes. As is
often the case Loyd White was the top seller, followed by Rubin
Parker , and then Bill Bailey.
Conservation Coordinator, Eric Weil of the Student
Conservation Association was on hand to explain their
program to our membership and accept an educational fur kit
donated by the NHTA.
Roger Burnham who presently serves as both the
Membership Director and the Secretary has been with the NHTA
since his youth. Roger served as President in 1995 and 1996.
In recognition of his long and faithful service to NHTA the
membership is proud to have him inducted into the NHTA Hall
of Fame as the fourteenth individual so recognized. Roger's
father Francis Burnham was one of the original founders of
NHTA, served as President for eight consecutive years
1955-1962 as was the second person inducted into the Hall of
Fame. It is a first to have both a father and son listed as
NHTA Hall of Fame Trappers. Roger is shown here displaying
his plaque and shaking hands with Gary Speed the Nomination
Committee Chairman.
All during the weekend the kids in our crowd
found activities to keep them interested and engaged.
Perhaps the most enjoyed activity was a chance to throw
the ball at a set traps hanging in front of a bear
target. Each time a trap was set off the contestant won
a brand new trap. Some of the youngsters went home with
three or more new traps, and most won at least one.
The Octave Delude Award is not presented every year
and is reserved for an individual, company, or organization
that has provided exemplary service for the NHTA. This year
that award was presented to Maryanne Jefferson for all of
her fine service to assist our organization to produce a
fine Fall Program booklet, prepare the Secretary's minutes
for dissemination, and other beneficial services.
And last but not the least we had the passing of the
gavel from the outgoing President Mel Liston to the new
President, Dwight Pennell. The NHTA has been well served by
a long list of volunteer Presidents who have been willing
and able to take a turn in this position of responsibility.
We are grateful for them all.
Wes Charles not only became a life member this
year but was also recognized as the 2006 NHTA Trapper of
the Year. Wes is shown here receiving his plaque from
Gary Speed who was the Chairman of the Nominating
Committee this year.
