We got a late start in our effort to assist Professor Stacey Lance with her Gray Fox Research Project by collecting a modest number of tissue samples in the 2005-2006 trapping season. This project is going to continue for at least another season and we wish to take advantage of the opportunity to distribute more kits amongst a larger distribution of member trappers. We are hopeful that trappers from all over the state will participate in this effort. The best science in this case will come from samples that are widely scattered around the state. So do not hesitate to join this effort if you normally only catch one or two Gray fox on your trapline. Those single but scattered specimens are far more valuable than ten from a single trapline for this particular study. To obtain a tissue sample kit contact NHF&G at 1-603-271-2461.

Professor Stacey Lance came to the NHTA Spring meeting this year and gave an informative power point presentation to describe her study and explain the findings thus far. This is very interesting work that she does and the NHTA is very proud to assist in this scientific effort to advance our knowledge of the Gray Fox species in North America.
