The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife confirmed today
that it has been served with a lawsuit that seeks to effectively ban all
trapping in the state. The suit was brought in Federal District Court by
the Animal Protection Institute and is the same or very similar action
as what was previously undertaken in Minnesota. The suit charges that
the Environmental Species Act is being violated based on the allegation
that lynx, bald eagles, and gray wolves are being taken unacceptably.

07-05-06 Miss New Hampshire 2006, Emily Hughes came to the NHTA
meeting at Boscawen for a visit. As it would turn out this was her
birthday. The trappers had cake and ice cream ready for a small
celebration. The NHTA gave Emily a raccoon hat to go with the fisher fur
coat we presented on the night of the Pageant. It was a nice opportunity
for the Directors and members present to meet Emily in person.

The NHTA donated an assortment of fur items to the
New Hampshire Wildlife Federation to raise funds at the
annual Conservation Banquet. Shown here is Jen Lampron one
of the many Banquet volunteers. Jen is modeling the Coon
Skin Cap that sold later in the evening for $150.

On April 29, 2006 the Miss New Hampshire Pageant was held at the
Pinkerton Academy in Derry. After a vary entertaining program, the
judges chose Emily Hughes of Gilmanton to be Miss NH 2006. Emily came to
the finals as Miss Winnipesaukee espousing a platform of Character
Education: Every School, Every Child. After the Pageant there was a
Patron's Party at C.R.Sparks in Bedford. It has been the tradition of
the New Hampshire Trappers Association since 1993 to present each newly
crowned Miss NH with a beautiful fisher fur coat. The coat this year was
presented by NHTA President Mel Liston.
On Saturday April 22nd, volunteers from the NHTA set up a
substantial display at the Discover Wild New Hampshire Day event. We
attend this every year and welcome the opportunity to talk trapping and
furbearers with the public. These pictures that show some of the rather
expansive layout prepared by the NHTA were taken in the early morning
before the event was opened to the many who came by. Many who visited
did say they thought we had the most impressive display. There were 19
animals placed throughout the immediate habitat, the kids just loved it.
There were four knowledgeable volunteers on hand who did a superb job of
representing our organization and providing a wealth of of quality
information to a very interested crowd. Another volunteer managed to
haul the heavy cabin to and from the event, still another secures the
valuable taxidermy mounts when not on display. The list goes on
throughout the entire organization with many providing valuable service,
right down to the individual trapper who graces the NHTA with his or her
membership.

Show and helped out with the crowd.

Eric Orff the NHF&G Furbearer Biologist is held in the
highest regard by the New Hampshire Trappers Association as well
as all other Outdoor Sportsmen Organizations in our state. We
are all aware of the long service and tireless dedication of
this public servant who gives so much of himself in his concern
for wildlife and their habitat. We are so very much in agreement
with Nashua F&G that Eric is indeed an Outstanding Biologist and
a friend of ours.
