The New Hampshire
Trappers Association is Proud to be an Affiliate of the
New Hampshire Wildlife Federation
To all who presently honor and support the worthy
efforts of New Hampshire Wildlife Federation via
individual or affiliate membership you are to be
commended. Know that by allowing NHWF to count you
amongst its membership, considerable credibility is
gained when representing our constituent interests
before a host of bodies both public and private. Members
of the New Hampshire Trappers Association were present
and involved during the formative years of the NHWF. A
past president of the NH Trappers Association Bob
Carlson also served for a period as Executive Director
of NHWF. The sitting President of NHTA, Mel Liston,
serves as a Director of NHWF, and the immediate past
president of NHTA, Scott Borthwick, was a Director of
NHWF for many years also. Another long standing Director
of the NH Trappers Association, Dan Dockham Jr, also
serves as a Director at the NHWF.
Established as a Sportsman’s Conservation organization,
the NHWF continues to evolve and offer support to many
groups that advocate issues close to the earth. Concerns
common to farmers, forestland owners, and rural folks
are regularly part of the agenda. The NHWF advocates for
a host of issues intended to insure good stewardship of
our natural treasures, be they wildlife, or the habitat
that is necessary to sustain them in perpetuity for all
the real and intrinsic values that are imparted. The
NHWF has always been front and center in its support and
advocacy toward continuing the heritage of hunting,
fishing, and trapping. These consumptive use traditions
are the foundation that supports the modern system of
wildlife management by providing the bulk of financial
support and the only feasible method of species
population control. Through regulated harvests and a
learned system of ethics, safety, and fair chase
practices the modern system manages our habitat and the
wild species with care and stewardship far gentler than
any natural system. Those who harvest from the natural
realm not only appreciate all that they see and enjoy
while within that influence, but also have considerable
utility for the products that nature can provide. This
utility gives natural resources added value. The NHWF
continues to advocate for the utilization of wild fur as
a renewable resource because it gives the wild
furbearers enhanced real value, which means that real
concern will be shown for their conservation. NHWF is
increasingly involved in its advocacy for less mercury
production from utility plants and other sources because
of the adverse effects on the environment. It is not
just the concern for human consumption of fish
containing high levels of mercury but concern for wild
species such as mink and otter that have a diet very
high in fish consumption. If it were not for the
concerned sportsmen/conservationist, then who would
advocate for the salmon in our rivers polluted by
industry and restricted with manmade obstructions? The
NHWF provides the forum for many individuals and groups
to find synergy in their efforts to advocate for,
educate, and otherwise support the many worthy and
necessary efforts, which are its passion.
The NHWF has a big plate full of important agenda. The
NH Trappers Association will continue to participate
with and support the efforts made by NHWF on our
collective behalf. We encourage all
sportsmen/conservationist to join the NH Wildlife
Federation as an Individual Member. If you are already a
member please take the time to explain the good work
done by NHWF to a friend or colleague and encourage them
to join our ranks. NHWF sincerely needs the support of
individual or corporate sponsors who wish to reflect a
commitment for environmental and social responsibility
by making a financial gift. Please contact the NHWF at
54 Portsmouth Street, Concord, NH 03301 or phone us at
603 224 5953 to see how you can help.
