Hello to the NH Trappers Association!

Thank you once again for inviting me to participate in the NH Wildlife Federation fundraising dinner. Claudette and I had a fun time!
Here is a photo of me in the beautiful fisher cat fur coat that you donated to me this year. I hope you like it!
You have been so generous throughout the years, I hope we can continue the honored tradition.

The NHTA endorses the purpose and agenda of this very worthy program and will be a willing contributor to it's support. We shall seek appropriate ways to encourage or assist with program activities by providing items for their auction, materials for education or training, and other types of assistance as requested when within our means. Furbearer Research
Wildlife Biologists regularly request assistance of the NHTA to achieve their research objectives. Some times it is a request for fur samples to be utilized in education, or tissue samples needed for DNA testing, perhaps they will need specific furbearer organs, other times it is for financial assistance. When the NHF&G exhausted its funds midway through a contracted research program on the reproductive biology of the fisher, the NHTA provided the matching funds to complete the project at Boston University. When researchers needed to fund a preliminary study as to the existence of Canadian Lynx in New Hampshire, the NHTA contributed five hundred dollars to get things going.

NH Fisher Relocated to PA and Continuing Study
In 1996 the State of Pennsylvania initiated considerable effort to reintroduce fisher to their state. Trapped animals from both New Hampshire and New York were transported, studied, and released within PA. The relocation effort proved over time to be successful. NHF&G and the New Hampshire Trappers Association participated to provide live fisher for this project. In follow up and related research New Hampshire fisher tongue tissue samples were collected in 2002-03 by NHTA member trappers for genetic testing similar to the research being done now on gray fox.

During the 2005-06 season, volunteer Trapper/Members of the NHTA will be collecting tissue samples for a genetic study research project conducted at the Biology Department of Colby College in Waterville, Maine.

Traps4Kids
The NHTA is proud to be a sponsor of this worthy program designed to assist and encourage our youth in their desire to learn about and become trappers. We encourage our membership to support this organization by donating cash, equipment, or by participating in the organization as a mentor.

Founding Fathers Fund
In 1953 a group of New Hampshire trappers got together and founded the New Hampshire Trappers Association. Those trappers put their effort into starting and fostering something which has endured through the years to benefit not only trappers but the larger community which seeks to understand trapping and the synergy of our activities in conjunction with modern wildlife science and management. A major component of their design for our organization was to continually advance and promote trappers individual education. So it is that we the members of the NHTA today wish to honor the memory of all our Founding Fathers by making a Grant available not to exceed $250 to any member in good standing of three or more consecutive years who attends and successfully completes the Fur Taker of America college course. Only members attending for the first time will be eligible. Members who wish to receive this grant must inform the NHTA in writing prior to the course, be approved, attend and complete the course on their own funds prior to award of the grant for successful completion. Donated Fur Kits
The NHTA collects fur donated by it's membership, has the fur processed and tanned, then packages them together as samples for educational display. The NHTA maintains fur kits for its own use during events and lends our kits out to member volunteers who go into schools or before other groups to discuss trapping or furbearers. As the donations come in and resources are available additional kits are put together and presented to appropriate educational entities for their use. Most recently the recipients of NHTA donated fur kits have been the Audubon Society of Auburn NH and the NHF&G Owl Brook Educational Facility at Holderness. Each complete kit has a value well in excess of $1000 based on present fur prices and processing costs.

Youth Shooting Sports Programs
The NHTA is providing some funds in support of two youth oriented programs that develop life skills such as discipline, sportsmanship, responsibility, confidence, and leadership. Click Here to Read a Thank You Note from One of the Young Participants
